Which Welsh courses and textbooks does it work with?

Any course whose vocabulary you can photograph or type in: Dysgu Cymraeg coursebooks from Mynediad to Gloywi, GCSE and A-Level Welsh, evening classes, tutors' handouts or a book. Clear tables with the Welsh in one column and the English in another work best from a photo. Flashcards Cymraeg is independent and isn't affiliated with any course provider.

Does it replace my course or my tutor?

No, and it isn't meant to. Courses like Dysgu Cymraeg, GCSE and A-Level Welsh, classes and tutors teach you Welsh. They're written and taught by people. Flashcards Cymraeg works with the words from your course and helps them stick between lessons. Tutors are welcome to recommend it. It isn't affiliated with any course provider or exam board.

Can I choose what the example sentences practise?

Yes. When you generate sentences there's a box for what you'd like to practise, for example "the past tense", "asking questions" or "sentences with Baswn i'n…". Leave it blank for a mix suited to your level. See Example sentences.

How much do the AI features cost?

Studying, adding words by hand and everything else is included. Only the AI features use your balance, and only by what each one actually costs us to run. Typical amounts:

Reading a photo into words: about 5p a photo.
Example sentences: about 1p a word with 2 sentences each, or around 27p for a 30-word deck.
One more sentence for a word: about 5p.
Explaining a sentence word by word: about 1p the first time. Explanations are saved, so opening one again is free. Sentences already explained are marked ✓ Explained.

How does spaced repetition work?

Spaced repetition shows you flashcards at increasing intervals based on how well you remember them. Cards you find easy are shown less frequently, while difficult cards appear more often. This optimises your learning and helps move vocabulary into long-term memory.

Can I study offline?

Currently, Flashcards Cymraeg requires an internet connection to work. We're considering offline functionality for future updates.

How many cards can I create?

There's no limit to the number of flashcards you can create manually. AI card generation from images uses part of your monthly allowance, which is included with your subscription. Unused allowance does not roll over to the next month.

What is the difference between test and drill modes?

A drill is for learning new words; a test is for keeping the ones you've learned, using spaced repetition. They're explained in Drills & tests.

What if the AI makes mistakes when creating cards?

AI is good at this but not perfect, so give new words a quick check. Tap any word to correct it. The same goes for example sentences: edit or delete any that look wrong.

How often should I study?

Consistency is more important than duration. Try to study for 10-15 minutes daily rather than longer, infrequent sessions. The spaced repetition algorithm works best with regular use.
