Adding words from a photo

How it works

1. Take a photo: Capture vocabulary tables, word lists, or glossaries from your Welsh textbooks
2. Upload the image: In a deck, open "+ Add words" and choose "Upload a photo". You can also paste a screenshot, or on a phone take the photo straight from the upload page
3. AI processing: You go straight back to your deck, which shows "Reading your photo…" while the Welsh-English word pairs are extracted. You can leave the page meanwhile
4. Check the new words: When they're ready they appear in the deck marked New. Tap any word to correct it
5. Start learning: Press Drill to learn the new words, then Test to review them over time

Best practices for image upload

Image quality

• Ensure good lighting when taking photos
• Keep the camera steady to avoid blur
• Make sure text is clearly visible and not cut off
• Avoid shadows or glare on the page

Content types that work best

• Vocabulary tables with Welsh and English columns
• Word lists with translations
• Glossaries from textbooks
• Simple vocabulary exercises with answers

What to Avoid

• Pages with too much text or complex layouts
• Handwritten notes (typed text works better)
• Images with poor contrast or very small text
• Pages with multiple columns of unrelated content

After AI processing

Once the AI has processed your image:

• Review all cards: Check that Welsh words and English translations are correct
• Edit if needed: Fix any mistakes or add additional information
• Delete unwanted words: Tick them and press Delete selected (on a phone, Delete words)
• Add notes: Include grammar information, pronunciation notes, or examples
